Access a Military to Civilian Transition services directory
A successful Military to Civilian Transition requires members ensuring the Domains of Well-being are being met.
These domains are: Purpose, Finances, Health, Life Skills, Social Integration, and Housing/Physical Environment. Learn about them in the My Transition Guide , and connect with subject-matter experts in each of these areas for further guidance. Please consult the National Resource Directory (NRD) for a full list of organizations.
Purpose
A sense of purpose in life is important to well-being. Transitioning members can feel lost or disoriented because they now need to replace the purpose they had in the military with something new.
Finances
Sufficient finances are associated with independence, healthy lifestyle choices, access to health services, quality of housing, family stability, and avoidance of debt.
Health
Health can be viewed as the physical, social, mental, and spiritual ability of an individual to function well.
Life Skills
The life skills domain refers to the knowledge, insights and experiences that prepare military members to adapt to civilian life.
Social Integration
Building new civilian social networks is important to find all the resources and supports available to you as you adjust to civilian life, and to reshape your military identity into a civilian one.
Housing and Physical Environment
Finding a nice home to live in is only part of the story. It's important to ensure that the physical environment you inhabit will meet your emotional needs as well.
Culture and Social Environment
Focuses on how transitioning members and Veterans are perceived and accepted by civilian society, how they are understood, valued and supported by the community.
